The White Veil
Located in Monywa, in the dry central region of Myanmar where summers are exceptionally hot, this family residence responds directly to its climate. A precast concrete screen wraps the upper floor, filtering harsh sunlight while providing privacy from the adjacent streets without compromising daylight or views. Full-height glazed openings positioned behind the screen allow the interiors to remain bright while significantly reducing solar heat gain.
The floating upper volume is reinforced by a pair of V-shaped columns that minimise visual support and create the impression of a suspended architectural frame. This approach gives the house a modest yet composed presence on the street while quietly expressing its structural logic.
The project demonstrates how passive environmental strategies and contemporary architecture can work together, transforming a simple protective screen into the defining identity of the home.
